DEEP ROOTS: Forest Climate Convergence
September 25th - 28th, 2025
Deep Roots is a movement––and momentum––building space designed to connect and give people the tools to take effective action to help forests, climate and communities.
What
This year's Deep Roots convergence will bring forest, climate, and social justice activists together to strengthen connections, share tools, and mobilize a strong grassroots resistance to the Trump Administration's industry-backed assault on public lands, forests, climate, and communities.Together, we’ll learn and draw from the lessons and strengths of both the climate justice and forest defense movements, while we build relationships, learn new skills, and get connected with ongoing campaigns throughout the PNW.
Join us for workshops, trainings and discussions about building resilient movement spaces, creating vibrant protest art. know your rights, direct action tactics for climate and forest defense, environmental education and current campaign updates.
Where
We will be camping on a beautiful farm in Skamokawa, Washington surrounded by forests and adjacent public lands. Three meals a day, plus snacks, will be provided. There will be options for folks to volunteer with food prep, dishes, and other roles to help make the camp run smoothly. We encourage people to come for the whole camp but also allow for late or early exit/arrival.
This is primarily a camping event, including walking on unpaved paths and/or uneven terrain. There are composting toilets but no showers. There are a few indoor spaces with beds available for those who most need them. Please contact us at [email protected] if you have any specific accessibility concerns/needs or if you need to borrow camping gear and we will do our best to accommodate.
Why
Now more than ever we need the kinds of movement- and momentum-building spaces like Deep Roots that connect and give people the tools to take effective action.
In the PNW, mature and old growth forests are vital for the struggle to preserve a livable climate and livable communities, and are one of the greatest resources we have to limit the impacts of climate change. Ultimately, the health of our forests, climate and communities are inextricably intertwined. In working to bridge the gap between the forest and climate movements, we hope to facilitate conversations around decolonization, economic justice, and how conservation efforts have left out some communities, and been complicit in harm.
How
We are working to make the camp a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for everyone who wants to participate. With that in mind, racism, sexism, transphobia, ableism, and other harmful power dynamics will not be tolerated.
Who
The camp is organized by the Pacific Northwest Forest Climate Alliance (PNWFCA) and supported by Rising Tide North America, the Oil and Gas Network (OGAN), 350 Eugene, and many individuals. For more information or any questions please contact: [email protected]
